How to Pack Medium-Sized Boxes

Knowing how to pack things the right way before you start packing is extremely important for a smooth move. Here at 123 Moving and Storage we try our best to prepare our current and prospective clients for any move. In this post we will be focusing on how to pack medium sized boxes. Medium sized boxes are industry standard sized boxes that can be used for a number of common household items. After following these simple tips you’ll feel like an expert medium-sized-box-packer!

Medium boxes are the easiest and fastest boxes to pack. They carry large and durable items, for example pillows, blankets, and linens. Medium boxes come in a variety of sizes, but the two most common sizes are the 3.0 carton (18″ x18″ x16″ cubic feet) and the 4.5 carton (18″ x18″ x24″ cubic feet). Each box is packed similarly, but the 4.5 box’s are generally used for lighter and larger objects that would take up too much space in a 3.0 box.

Items Packed into a Medium Sized Box:

  • Pots
  • Pans
  • Trays
  • Shoes
  • Games
  • Toys
  • Folded Clothes
  • Linens
  • Pillows
  • Blankets
  • Towels
  • Small appliances
  • Stereo Components
  • Speakers
  • Large Lampshades
Packing paper is your FRIEND: To protect the items inside the box, start packing every box with a layer of crumpled paper at the bottom. And make sure to add another layer of crumpled packing paper to the top before closing the box. Soft items like pillows, towels and clothes can be set in box without any packing paper. When it comes to packing small appliances or electronic components, you should wrap the items with packing paper to provide extra protection. Pots and pans do not need to be individually wrapped, just add crumpled packing paper around them once inside the box to prevent them from moving around. If you are packing fragile items, such as glass dishes or vases, it is best to pack them in a dish pack instead of a medium sized box for protection reasons. Lamp shades should be packed in their own box comfortably without any additional items. Add lots of crumpled paper to protect the lampshade.

By following these tips you can rest assured that your items will be safe during your upcoming move. Be sure to check out our website for more information on moving and storage. Good luck with your packing!
